1/21/10 - Eco-value vs. profit
Session by Kristin Cleveland.
Action Items/Thoughts
Finding Tax cuts/incentives
Long term budgets/ visual aids not just one year or a few month budgets/visual aids ( or find out what your companies budget tolerance is and work from there)
Show that the area population supports green businesses or that the world is moving in that direction with data
Baby steps-focus on one thing at a time
Don’t get defensive
Install Light timers-unplug things at night , In larger companies this can save big $$ (Wal-Mart (I know I know) turned off the backlight to it’s coke machines and saved big dollars)
Visual dollars to employees or tenants-posting electric bills in elevators for everyone to see
Create competition between branches to save electric or become more eco friendly
Do a companywide survey to see if other employees agree or how they feel in general
Create employee positive envrio spaces which increases productivity
Trash cans with step lids so you have to think and read the signs posted above for recycling or compost
Make goals/desires known company wide, and then let the employees decide how they want to make eco changes---make it an achievement or progressive goal and not a solid stance which may appear aggressive.
Show the economic community effect with data/graphs
Create a living wall to reduce graffiti and less concrete
Look into the energy trust of Oregon
Are there free green advisors in Oregon that would give companies free estimates/help
